THE CHICAGO AREA CENSUS FIGURES SHOW A SIGNIFICANT GAP IN ECONOMIC SECURITY BETWEEN BLACKS AND WHITES SOME 50% OF BLACK FAMILIES EARNED LESS THAN $8,000 IN 1970, COMPARED TO 21% WHITE. MEDIAN BLACK INCOME AT THAT TIME WAS 65% THAT OF THE WHITES, AN IMPROVEMENT OF 5% IN 20 YEARS, BUT AN ACTUAL WIDENING OF THE DOLLAR GAP

John H. White (born 1945 Lexington, North Carolina) is an American photojournalist, recipient of a Pulitzer Prize in 1982. After working for the Chicago Daily News, White joined the staff of the Chicago Sun Times in 1978 and worked there until May 2013. White also teaches photojournalism at Columbia College Chicago, and formerly taught at Northwestern University.
